Sika Single-ply Membranes
Modern Roofing has partnered with Sika, the leading manufacturer of single-ply roofing membranes. Modern Roofing has undergone training throughout our company from managers and estimators to tradespeople in SIKA’s London-based specialist training facility, which has resulted in us becoming an approved and licensed contractor.
Sika membranes are ideal for the renovation of existing roofs that have reached the end of their working life. The lightweight nature of Sika waterproofing will permit the overlaying of the existing roofs without the need to strengthen the structure. Also, the ability of the sheet to breathe entrapped water vapour through the actual membrane itself helps with the drying out of the existing structure.
Some of Britain’s best-known buildings feature Sika roofs, and it is the system of choice for applications in education, commerce, retail, leisure, travel, and many other sectors.
German-engineered, Sika has maintained the highest standards of training and quality installation, building a specialist licensed contractor, specifier, and client base. All Sika membranes are manufactured to exacting standards.
Since the 1960s, the performance and longevity of Sika roofs have been demonstrated in millions of successful applications worldwide, in every conceivable climate, and many of the early installations are still providing reliable protection today.
SIKA Single-Ply membranes are strong, flexible sheets composed predominately of synthetic polymer. Thickness is in the range of 1.1mm to 2mm. Some products are homogeneous, others reinforced with glass fibre or polyester, depending upon the application. They are sealed at joints to form continuous waterproofing. When combined with insulation and continuous support they form complete, durable roof systems. Single-ply technology offers maximum freedom of choice in roof design, performance, and appearance to suit new construction and refurbishment.
Membranes are independently certificated for durability in excess of 35 years. There are mainland European working examples that are more than 50 years old, in the UK, the earliest projects will soon be this old.
The Sika membranes offered by Modern Roofing are resistant to weathering, chemical oxidation, and UV radiation. They require no additional surface protection unless for access. Careful formulation ensures that physical properties are retained in the climate typical of the UK. A typical Sika roofing system will achieve A+ ratings in the Green Guide to Specification.
The application of polymer technology to roofing has unique advantages for the customer:
